ps i don't care if you start looking for a wife for me, it'll make my life less stressful when i get home. but i might marry a korean, they are gorgeous and the little korean kids are the cutest kids i've ever seen.

March 4, 2009 -Funny!

my name is elder garr i'm a 19 year mormon missionary currently living in
korea. I like to play the guitar, listen to music and longboard. People like
me because i'm polite and rarely late. wow this is probably the most
rediculous email i've ever written to my family. uhhhh........

sorry bout that i'm really bored, or as they say in korea shimshimheyo haha.
but seriously...

not much going on here lately i got closed in a bus door, i don't know how
the bus driver didn't see me trying to get on his bus, i'm whiter and bigger
than 98% of the people that get on his bus. my companion got farted on by a
fat kid. umm not much else to talk about. i'm really good looking. and i'm
really humble these days. i think i'm going to move back here to korea after
college. um and i ate some really gross veggies last night. i've been in
korea for six months now, and in two weeks i'll have had my mission call for
a year. weird. Elder Hutchings is great we are having alot of fun. we know
alot of the same people so its fun to tell stories of our premission lifes.
we are working really hard lately and trying to find alot of people to
teach. proselyting is really fun here because the people get nervous around
me and my comp because we are americans and probably because i look like a
bear. mom don't let brady play video or computer games to much. i know way
to many wastes of life that play those games and do nothing else. never i
repeat never let him play world of warcraft it will take over his life and
he will turn into a zombie. well anyway sorry this email is not very good
this last week was just filled with talking to people on the street for the
most part.

hey
this last week was good, went by really fast. Elder hutchings is great, its
like a breath of fresh air. so life is alot more interesting now. which is good. right now we are trying really hard to find people to teach. its starting to warm up here finally, me and elder hutchings are used to st george winters. i'm still studying hard. my korean is coming along, i know enough know to hold my own, but i still have to study a ton. i'm studying it kind of different now then i used to, i am studying the chinese root of korean words cause a lot of korean words have
corresponding chinese charachters that have meanings for instance the word
for wednesday is suyoir, and swimming is suyoung the su- part of the word is
the same in both words and are a chinese charachter that means water. i like
to study it this way more its easier for me. i'm healthy, low on protein
though, koreans don't eat much meat, and if they do its usually pork. or
eggs. well gotta run talk to ya next week, oh and i might buy the translator
right now while the exchange rate is really good and save like 100 bucks or
so.

hey how is life in america?
that food was kimchi, i think, i can't remember which one i sent. things
here are good, i called elder hirsche today and he told me to tell everyone
hello. He also informed me that the baptism of one of the people we taught
we well. This kid that was baptized has a crazy story, we first met him on
the street and he wanted to met with us to learn english. So the first time
we met with him we told him how our program worked, the first 30min. english
study, the next 30 min gospel. Kang Byoung hoon, (the kid who got baptized)
told us that he will meet with us but he won't study the gospel with us,
only english. Elder Hirsche and i weren't really impressed. But we decided
to meet a few times and see if any thing changes. So we met the first time
and taught him a little, not a whole lot because he was still set on not
learning our gospel. but over time he opened up and started to listen to the
message and like it. so we asked him to come to church, he said no, my mom
is an intense catholic and if i come here she will be mad. so we kept
working with him. he became our favorite person to teach, he's really nice,
fun to be around and really loves me and elder hirsche. so we would met with
him a few times a week, then when i got transferred he was sad and so was i
but elder hirsche kept teaching him. i called elder hirsche a few weeks
later and i asked about byounghoon and he said he is getting baptized. kang
byoung hoon decided to go to church and get baptized. his mom disapproved
and kicked him out of their house. and kang byoung hoon is now preparing his
application to BYU provo. Pretty intense. i went to lunch with him 2 weeks
ago on pday because i was in seoul, and he was so happy to see me it made me
feel so good. so when he goes to america you guys might have to meet him,
even though i'll be here. he is dang good at english so you can talk with
him fine.
not much going on here, they do celebrate valentines day here, a korean
asked me if they celebrate it in america. i just smiled and laughed.
Next thursday i will have a new companion. i'll find out who he is on
saturday and pick him up on thursday so i'll email a little later. not much
more to write about so i'll talk to you next week.
Happy Valentines Day
love Elder Garr
